After you've spoken to YWs about OHS, use written materials such as safe work method statements, policies and manuals. Access to written OHS information will help refresh YWs' memory and let them check how to work safely without always needing to find someone to ask. This is especially important with YWs who are reluctant to ask questions or admit they don't know how to do something.

Some YWs may have difficulty reading and writing, especially those from non-English speaking backgrounds. Always ask questionShow YWs written copies of OHS policies and procedures, explain these documents and give practical examples of when they are required.

Provide YWs with a written position description so they can check if they need training or OHS information.

Write safe work procedures down to reduce the need for YWs to memorise them.

These are an easy way to conduct surveys, send reminders, inform groups of YWs about OHS incidents or changes in the workplace affecting OHS.
