Spoken Communication Print E-mail

Click headings below to expand.

Talking with YWs is the most popular way to communicate about OHS because it is quick, easy and personal. However, YWs may recall conversations differently to you or not remember them at all so reinforce key messages with written, non-verbal and multimedia OHS communication methods.

Explain safe work procedures, ask questions to check YW comprehension and provide personalised feedback.

Give OHS information to a group of YW at the same time. Be aware that lectures limit opportunities to check YW understanding.

Can be anything from a casual chat with an individual or small group of YW, through to formal meetings of the OHS committee or entire staff.

Explain and demonstrate the safest way to complete tasks while working ‘on the job’ alongside YW.
