YWs are used to receiving information in a variety of ways, especially via multimedia communication methods. After talking with YWs about OHS, use posters, charts, signs, photos, DVDs and videos to introduce and reinforce key OHS messages. Changing the posters, signs, etc on a regular basis will also keep messages relevant and up to date.

Multimedia messages are especially helpful for YWs with low literacy levels or from non-English speaking backgrounds.

NOTE! Multimedia messages alone will not keep YWs safe.

Use posters and signs to remind and reinforce OHS information for YWs.

Give YWs easy and constant access to information about new and/or safe work procedures, OHS incidents, days since last incident, near misses, etc.

Clearly show dangerous places/substances/plant/equipment/sections of the workplace, hazards, safe work procedures, correct manual handling, etc.

Use photos to demonstrate correct use of plant and tools, safe work practices and consequences of inadequate OHS.

Show YWs commercially produced DVDs / videos of common workplace hazards, safe work procedures, OHS promotions, etc.
